Koinonia Summer Day Camp

ABOUT DAY CAMP

Our program is designed to focus on your camper’s spiritual growth as well as introduce activities, crafts, games and experiences with their peers. Campers will receive daily 30-minute swim lessons followed by free swim in the pool. Our trained leaders and staff lead programs that will challenge your camper and give them an opportunity to improve their skills. Daily we will focus on our faith through a hands on chapel service with songs, skits, and messages of hope.

EVERY WEEK IS UNIQUE

We know that families in our area need options to keep their kids active and engaged in the summer. We are building our programs to be unique every week with a similar structure but different content. This will allow you to send your camper to attend day camp for one week, two weeks or all six weeks!

QUICK DETAILS

Who can come? Day Camp is designed for campers ages 5-11 (rising Kindergarten - 5th grade). Our youngest campers must be 5 by their first day of camp, and our oldest campers must be 11 through their last day of camp.

Who are the counselors and staff? Our Program Director, Lexie Parrott, will be recruiting and training a day camp team that will be background checked and vetted. We also will be accepting volunteers to assist weekly in the program with check-in/out, crafts, games etc. You will be sent information about registering to volunteer in the spring.

What about lunch? All campers will be bringing their own lunch and Camp Koinonia will provide 2 daily snacks. If your child has a dietary restriction, please provide 2 snacks daily for them to enjoy.

Who is in charge of the camp? Questions and comments can be directed to our program director, who will be handling registrations as well as managing all aspects of our summer day camp.

Day Camp Trail Groups

Day Campers take on their Koinonia experience in trail groups. Composed of co-ed groups of 7-10 campers and 1-2 counselors, trail groups give campers a home team for the week. Based on weekly registrations, campers are typically in a trail group with peers within 1 year of age.

Days will be filled with developmentally appropriate games and activities which promote skill development, healthy risk taking, character growth, and fun! On the right we have provided a sample of activities we may be able to offer during your camper’s week at Koinonia.

Sibling & Friend Requests: We are able to accommodate 1 mutual “buddy request” for campers to be in the same trail group with friends or siblings within 1 year of age.

Quick Explanation: Everything that is listed above your age group is also available for example, every child will have the opportunity for swim lessons since they are listed in the youngest group.

All the Details

Regarding faith, what will you be teaching the campers?

In the book of Matthew, Jesus responds to the Pharisees’ question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Matt. 22:36-39

Faith development at Camp Koinonia Day Camp is grounded in this teaching. This is most reflected in the “I’m Third” motto: God is first, others are second, and I am third. The “I’m Third” motto is at the core of who we are and what we do. Our goal with faith development is to expose people to God’s love and plant seeds, allowing room for exploration and questions with your family.

With that in mind, these goals guide our time at camp.

Camp Koinonia’s Five Spiritual Goals | Each camper should learn more about:

  • Relationship and connection with a gracious and loving God.

  • The Bible as a guide for life

  • Jesus’ life and teachings regarding loving God and others well.

  • Our bodies being the temple of God that need to be well cared for.

  • Our responsibility in caring for the world God has made.

Can you explain the options for check-in/check-out etc.?

In an effort to make our program accessible to as many families as possible, we are offering everyone an early check-in time at no extra charge. You will need to stick with the same time every day for check-in 8:00-8:15am or 9:00-9:15am. For check-out, we are offering an extended day option from 3:30-5:30pm. You will need to select 3:30pm (no extra charge) or 5:30pm (additional $50 fee). In order to provide safe, smooth check outs, early pick-ups outside the check out time are only provided in emergencies or with prior director approval.

You have a bus? How does that work?

We are offering a daily bus service to and from Cle Elum. We will pick-up at the 2nd Street Park (skate park one) at 8:30am and check-in at 3:30pm at check-out. There is an extra $25.00 fee per week whether you use it every day or select days. Parents/Guardians are required to be there at the time of check-in/out at the park.

Program Outcomes

We believe camp should be more than just fun. Through caring staff and intentional programming, campers learn new skills, build lasting friendships, and grow in character. We strive to instill campers with values of respect, friendship, joy, and faith.

Our goal is that each camper will:

  • Experience a sense of belonging

  • Develop knowledge of and appreciation for the natural world

  • Acquire and improve their social and emotional learning skills.

  • Develop spiritually based on Camp Koinonia’s 5 spiritual goals
