homeschool collective
WHO WE ARE
The Homeschool Collective is a program hosted by Camp Koinonia that meets once a week on Wednesdays, September through May, where parents collaborate to facilitate structured social enrichment for their homeschooled children. We are a vibrant community of parents looking for intentional connection and friendship, and whose desire is to support each other in our homeschool journeys. This program aligns with Camp Koinonia’s desire to create spaces for families in Cle Elum to spend time together in nature. The Collective is exclusive to homeschool families and those who choose to do online homeschooling. Similar to a co-op, each parent is responsible for fulfilling a role within our group.
GENERAL INFO
During our Wednesday meetups parents/caregivers are required to remain on site and participate with the group. This is not a dropoff program. All enrichment offered at Collective is supplemental to what is already being taught in the home. For the first three Wednesdays each month we spend one hour in small classes (electives) and one hour in open free play with optional guided activities (flex time). What is offered may vary each month and will be determined by the willingness of the parents of the Collective to lead. The fourth Wednesday each month is reserved for parent meetings, parties, special events, etc. Children enrolled in our Collective need to be comfortable being away from their parent for at least an hour to attend their elective classes. While at camp parents and children are expected to act in a way that is respectful of Camp Koinonia’s facility, mission, and values.
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
The registration fee for the 2024/2025 school year is $200 for each child age 4 or older by September 4th 2024. This fee goes toward camp usage costs as well as supplies and activity costs and is managed by the Leadership Team and the Camp Koinonia liaison. Each parent involved needs to complete a background check, sign the membership agreement, and fill out a voluntary disclosure agreement before participating. A few full and partial scholarships are available each year, if interested request more information below.
Homeschool Collective at Camp Koinonia Registration and Participation will include:
35 Wednesdays of structured, parent-led and instructor-led activities
Use of indoor and outdoor spaces at Camp Koinonia

PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES
A parent from each family in our Collective is responsible to plan and lead three small classes during the 2024-2025 year. We call these small classes electives. Electives run for three Wednesdays each month. Each elective leader will have at least one parent helper assigned with them. We know this sounds intimidating if you’re unfamiliar with Collective. However, we have a running list of ideas for you, the internet is at your fingertips, and this is an incredibly supportive group. We promise you can do this!
Parents are also responsible for cleaning up spaces used for their electives. These spaces are to be left in the state that they are found in. Parents are also responsible for cleaning up the lodge. The lodge cleaning schedule is determined by alphabetical order.
Families are also responsible to maintain a 75% attendance rate at Collective. This is essential in order for Collective to operate successfully. Families will need to attend meetings and Wednesday gatherings 75% of the time to retain their spot in the group. If families become inactive their spots may be given to waitlisted families.
A DAY AT COLLECTIVE
We start gathering around 12:30pm on Wednesdays. This time can be used to participate in the optional kids bible study, prepare for your electives, to eat lunch, and parents can watch children play outside. Children are under their parents supervision at this time. We then gather at the lodge for announcements around 12:50-12:55pm. Be listening for that loud dinner bell when it’s time to gather up! Any important announcements will be made, we’ll break into our smaller groups, and then dismiss to electives at 1pm. Electives run from 1-2pm. Then Flex Time runs from 2pm-3pm. At 3pm the assigned parents can begin cleaning the lodge and everyone else slowly leaves for the day.
